The Riding House Cafe

We've been meaning to get to the Riding House Cafe for the past 4 years, and we finally made it on this slightly chilly Saturday morning.  We'd heard such good things about it, and it didn't disappoint!

I was typically greedy and HAD to try both the lobster benedict and the buttermilk pancakes.  The former was pretty close to perfect - a generous helping of lobster, a runny poached egg, and a lovely dollop of caviar on top.  The pancakes were also yum: slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, although if I was being picky the berries were a tad sour for my liking.  All in all, however, I was very satisfied with my meal(s)!

Katie had the challah french toast with vanilla clotted cream and maple syrup and a 'Racer' smoothie, which is made out of chocolate, espresso, banana and milk.  Just FYI, if you make a trip to the Riding House Cafe, definitely make sure you order one of the juices or smoothies. We didn't actually try a juice, but we spied quite a few of them around and they looked delicious, and the smoothies all come in these really cute milk bottles that are just so instagram-able. But back to the Racer smoothie - Katie was expecting quite a sweet chocolatey milkshake-type thing, but it actually tasted more like an iced coffee with a hint of banana. Still really yummy, but she definitely couldn't manage the whole thing!

The french toast, on the other hand, was eaten in about 30 seconds flat. As you can see, she'd already scoffed some of it before she even remembered to take a photograph! In her words, it was 'melt-in-your-mouth delicious', even if the clotted cream did make it incredibly sickly. A word of advice: don't order a sweet main and a sweet smoothie - definitely sugar overload!

Half-eaten French Toast - oops!

Overall, we would definitely recommend you checking this out - a great place for breakfast before a long day of shopping on Oxford Street!
